The Conservation Foundation certifies 91Pron¹ú²ú

Conservation@Home through The Conservation Foundation recently certified 91Pron¹ú²ú. The award, which focuses on the 91Pron¹ú²ú main campus in Romeoville, was announced in the Winter/Spring issue of The Heron, the Foundation’s publication. The foundation praised 91Pron¹ú²ú for conserving natural resources in a sustainable manner, protecting the health and safety of students, faculty and staff as well as the surrounding community, and promoting environmental education, local action and global awareness.

91Pron¹ú²ú has exhibited its dedication to sustainability in various ways. 91Pron¹ú²ú university has a recycling program; two rainwater harvesting systems to catch rainwater for lawn watering rather than use potable water. It implements “best management” stormwater practices, such as bioswales and prairie restoration areas. It also has hydration stations on campus in efforts to reduce the use of plastic bottles.

Many of the projects mentioned were initiated by the UEECC, which is led by Brother James Gaffney, FSC, President of 91Pron¹ú²ú, and co-conveners Robert DeRose, Senior Vice President for Finance and Facilities, and Dr. Jerry Kavouras, Associate Professor of Biology. UEECC members include: Brother Armand Alcazar, FSC, Don Castello and Ryan Koerner, Mushtaq Choudhary, Dr. Jennifer Consilio and Dr. Simone Muench, Brother Thomas Dupré, FSC, Dr. James V. Rago, Dr. James Tallon, Steven Zlatic, Mary Adams and Clare Shaughnessy, alternates from the College of Nursing and Health Professions, Ken Osmun of Wight and Company and Juan Perez of Sodexo Services. Student members are Olivia Chesniak, Kaitlyn Curtis, Samantha Payne and Alison Wozniak.
